So what are some of the common and generally accepted theory that should be updated? I can imagine a lot of people and those new to NLP would benefit from some concise and reader friendly sharing.
I am curious to know if any updating actually changes the implication of what is taught.
It appears to me that many clients formally looking for “life coaching” and bringing to us their day-to-day issues, in fact appear to have no “absolute” purpose, the thing they probably want the most (but may not be aware of). Of course NLP does not accept “absolutes,” cause by pre-supposition everything is just a map, even death (do your – not NLP trained – clients buy into this?)
I am looking for NLP counselors who successfully touched that deep realm that some clients seem to long for. I am interested in hearing from those who went beyond applying meaning-making formulas to linguistically passing “from language to internal experience” in the context of business coaching or some lighter psychological or performance improvement contexts.
This may point to areas of identity or spirituality within the Dilts model. To exaggerate: I am looking for practitioners who approach differently the process of giving up smoking and giving up existential angst and thoughts of death. Did you counsel anybody on the deathbed? How did you build rapport? What really mattered? What has made the difference?

I’ve decided I want to improve my visualization skills. The way I’m going about it is to get into a very relaxed state and then remember a movie and go through the scenes at random noticing stuff like the characters, their clothing and the scenery. I then think of items and build them up into a collection such as starting with a banana and then adding one each time to create a bunch.
The thing is I don’t know if this is going to lead to an increase in the skill of visualization. I’ve only been doing it a couple of days so can’t really say if I’ve made any real advances. To get to the level of skill that Tesla had do you reckon I am going in the right direction and how much effort do you think is required?
Certain ones include- women are generally evil and hate men, they just exist to torment men, women hate me and I have to convince them to like me, I have no self worth unless a woman likes me, and on.
Im still trying to figure out where external reality ends and internal reality/frames begin. See it confuses me since I didnt just make these frames up out of thin air but rather have constructed them over years from much external stimuli approaching women. I understand interpretations build on past experience so a negative seed could just sprout into the beliefs above.
I used to be of the opinion that my frames at the moment dont matter since if I get enough external experience then things will sort themselves out internally with enough experience. What I’ve found tho is mostly the more experience I get is the more it reinforces my current beliefs. They might change a bit but mostly just reinforcement of current negative beliefs.
One thing Ive had trouble with is I know ppl say you can choose any frame you like and many choose equally exaggerated frames in the other direction such as- every woman is hopelessly attracted to me and such.
Now to me I’ve found those types of frames hard to believe and so resisted trying them on for myself.
So what would work best for me? Should I just construct frames that best suit my personality?
As M Hall says, if everything is frames, I would say I have a strong skeptics frame. Now I feel this is a very useful frame in life in general so dont see myself wanting to get rid of that any time soon.
I was wondering how I could maybe adopt more rational frames about women around that.
So I guess another good frame for me would be ‘what is the most rationale frame, frame’. Now on that reckoning, certainly, the above woman hating frames wouldnt be most rational.
I’d also had trouble with the ‘every woman likes me’ extreme as I thought that one a delusional frame.
If any frame is equally ‘real’ then I guess its just as rational to pick one over another but I suppose that is what Im having trouble with. I dont see how ALL feeling is just a matter of perspective- Like putting my hand in a fire if it hurts Im using a ‘negative frame’- this seems silly to me. So Im trying to get a grip on the parameters of inner and outer.
As antoher example I’d find it harder to buy into a ‘pigs can fly’ frame vs ‘the sky is blue’ frame.
So Im thinking a maybe more neutral empiricist’s frame might be better- such as I am eager to learn the rules of the game to gain mastery over it, frame.
So I understand that frames like ‘all women are evil’ frame are equally irrational but Im not sure how to choose better ones which would fit my worldview.
So I would like to get some help untangling this stuff if anyone would be so kind.

When it comes to mechanical forms of knowledge it really is a nice, quick and dirty way of gaining know how. When you start to veer off into subjects such as consciousness and subjective experience the rules for the mechanical quickly become absurd to even entertain any idea that contains a degree of subjectivity such as the best way of catching fish. If you wanted to learn how to catch fish would you search for a cowboy to teach you?
