Is There a "drill/exercise" That Will Help Me to Understand Which Direction My Feelings Move?

I am re-reading Richard Bandler’s book, " Get the Life you Want ". In the section on "the qualities of your thoughts – submodalities" he goes on about tracking the movement of your feelings. He says they go forward or backward or side to side. I’ve sat in contemplation on this matter many times, and cannot "feel" a pattern of movement. I think feelings are created in our brain, and send out feelings (read: cramps, knots etc.) but i do not feel them moving in a direction of any sort. This concept seems to be the basis of altering your feelings/behaviors which is the foundation of his theory, but for the life of me, i cannot feel directional movement of feelings. Are there any specific "drills" or "exercises" i can do to isolate this rotational movement of feelings so that i can understand it better and move onto the next chapter???? This is a big sticking point for me… any ideas??? Thank you.
