Six Step Reframe

An NLP technique I have really struggled with over the years has been the Six Step Reframe and I mean a more modern version of the original. The reason is I didn’t notice any results so there was no evidence it worked and for a time I couldn’t even get unconscious signals.

Now I put it down to simply believing in the process. A process is a process and it shouldn’t matter if you believe in the process or not but somehow it seems to matter with the six step reframe. With the simple suggestion of finger signals that can easily lead to a finger twitch and now there is communication with the unconscious mind and so enters the placebo theory and the marvelous results that can have, but not in all or possibly most cases. It’s not so much I didn’t believe in the process as much as I didn’t get it.

There are many different layers of NLP techniques and they have different classes of interventions and techniques, for example, working directly with behavior by modeling someone else will generate new behavior and that effects state and beliefs if it is a behaviour you had to work at to get. Also you can work on particular strategies by breaking down the sequences into states that are chained together in an extremely quick unit of behavior and modify the strategy by chaining in states or at the submodality level.

That’s where the six step reframe works for me. I don’t have a problem with the notion of ‘parts’ and that is very convenient when doing a parts integration which is one of the most powerful and far reaching techniques I know. Recently I spatially anchored a normal very stressed state and a normal very relaxed state and walked in and out of the spaces observing a dramitic shift between the states of someone I was having a conversation with. I stepped into both spaces together expecting a collapse and just observed a very confused state. No integration at all.

When thinking about a problem or anything, there has to be an internal behavior to let you know that you are thinking about it. With a problem it is very easy because when when thinks about a problem there is a behaviour, perhaps a feeling that they become conscious of and that’s the unconscious communication, it’s already there. Communicate with that behaviour and there is unconscious communication and the unconscious response and because it’s already there, it can’t not respond. Now it can be asked to increase in intensity for a ‘yes’ signal and decrease for a ‘no’ signal and the positive intention.

This is what I am finding works for me.
1. Thinking about what it is you want to work with and notice how you know you are thinking that kinesthetically.
2. Set up yes, no signals.
3. Ask if it is willing to give the highest positive intention of the behavior. (keeping in mind it’s the behaviour doing the communicating)
4. Ask if the positive intention is willing to try new behaviors that will fully satisfy the intention and get a ‘yes’ signal.
5. Ask the unconscious mind if it is willing to generate 3 new ecological behaviors to satisfy the positive intention of the behavior (keeping in mind you are already getting unconscious signals)
6. Once the unconscious mind signals the new behaviors. Then I calibrate the unconscious yes, no, signals. It’s just better that way.
7. Ask the intention of the behaviour if it is willing to ‘choose’ any of the new behaviors to try in replacing the current behaviour and get a yes signal.
8. Ask the unconscious mind to do an ecology check and signal yes if the behaviours are completely ecological.
9. Ask the intention of the behavior to take responsibility to replace the current behavior and get a yes signal.
10. Ask the unconscious mind to take the responsibility to replace the current behavior and get a yes signal.

At the submodality level there is a lot that can be experienced and modified and a really great technique I discovered for people who just can’t make the submodality shifts, which I discovered after years of not being able to make the submodality shifts easily. I also have a nice technique for people who think they can’t see the internal visual images they are describing because I couldn’t and that’s also after years of not being able to do it. Interestingly, I discovered the techniques after I could do those.

Perhaps it is just the way I understand the process that makes sense that at the unconscious level there is really some communication going on, in the neurology that can work with it and a direct connection.

Now I get results immediatley by a flexibility in the behaviour and that’s also going to lead to generative effects although when I successfully work on myself I tend to forget all about it.
